Denver, Colorado

Valet trash in Denver.

Denver's apartment buildings now carry a recycling and compost requirement, and residents still expect clear hallways. Doorstep collection handles both, five nights a week.

Local rules

What Denver now requires

Denver's Universal Recycling and Composting Ordinance (URCO) covers multifamily buildings with eight or more units. The city set September 1, 2026 as the compliance date and says it is taking an education-first approach to enforcement.

Covered buildings must provide recycling and composting for residents, post signs that clearly identify each stream, and train new tenants at move-in, with updated information every year. Buildings with seven or fewer units stay on city collection; larger buildings arrange service through a licensed private hauler.

Where Boss Bins fits

URCO makes recycling and compost available. Doorstep collection makes them easy to use: residents set out all three streams at the same door, and Boss Bins carries each one to the right container in your enclosure.

Your hauler still empties the containers. Everything between the door and the dumpster is handled.

In Cherry Creek, most homes are apartments and condos. Denver's Cherry Creek Area Plan counted about two-thirds of the neighborhood's housing as multifamily, from mid-rise buildings in Cherry Creek North to the condo towers and apartment complexes of Cherry Creek East. In taller buildings, the walk to the enclosure includes an elevator ride, and that's where doorstep collection makes the biggest difference.

How it works

A night of service in Denver.

  1. Set out

Residents place bags at their door during the window in your guidelines, usually 6 to 8 PM.

  2. Collected

From 8 PM, every hallway and breezeway is walked door to door until the last bag is gone. Sunday through Thursday.

  3. Finished

Trash, recycling and compost go to your enclosure or compactor. Chutes stay clear and hallways are empty by morning.
